Job Responsibilities: (The duties and responsibilities stated are general summary and not all inclusive.)

The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is searching for a compassionate, enthusiastic professional to provide oversight to the Medication Administration Program (MAP) in the Southeast Region ensuring compliance with the Department of Public Health (DPH) and DDS regulations and policies. This position requires significant travel within the Southeast Region.

The MAP Coordinator provides consultation and ongoing technical assistance to provider agencies, Area and Regional Office staff including Survey, Certification, and Investigations of personnel, specific to medication administration program (MAP) regulations.

The position is responsible for the oversight of the Medication Occurrence Reporting System (MOR); completing independent reviews and assessing all medication occurrence reports for the Region, analyzing aggregate MOR data for patterns and trends and recommending appropriate action(s) as needed.

The Coordinator is responsible to complete and submit reports to the Region, DDS Central Office, program sites and all other applicable recipients which also includes when needed reporting back to DPH. This position also conducts Medication System Evaluations and assists in DPH clinical reviews. The MAP Coordinator works with DDS and the nurses from the provider agencies as needed, which may include home visits where medication issues are involved in addition to also providing training to DDS and provider nurses.

This position coordinates and conducts meetings bi-monthly with Area Office (AO) Nurses to share information including MAP updates and to problem solve and provide resources. The Coordinator represents the DDS Southeast Region in monthly Statewide MAP Meetings to review policies, systems, curriculum, and statewide statistics.

This Coordinator monitors and evaluates medication certification and re-certification and training of staff for community based provider agencies and state operated programs at sites throughout the DDS Southeast Region and conducts \"Train the Trainer\" programs to train provider agency RNs to become MAP Trainers. The Coordinator will address critical MAP related issues as requested by the Regional Director and other Administrators which may involve the need for an immediate response to the issue including written assessments and recommendations.

A criminal background check (CORI) will be completed on the recommended candidate as required by the regulations set forth by the Executive Office of Health and Human Services prior to the candidate being hired. In addition, Chapter 234 of the Acts of 2014, An Act Requiring National Background Checks, requires the Department of Developmental Services to conduct fingerprint-based check of the state and national criminal history databases on the recommended candidate. Full-time 40 hour weekly position.

Schedule Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Days off Saturday and Sunday

Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic or medical facility and (B) of which at least one year must have been in a supervisory, administrative or managerial capacity or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.


I. A Graduate degree with a major in Nursing may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.* No substitutions will be allowed for the required (B) experience.

* Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LEVELS IN SERIES:Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.*

* Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination. Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required.
