This is a temporary position to cover an individual on a leave of absence.

Work Schedule: (40 hours) 11:00 pm to 7:00 am with Rotating Weekends Days off:

Week 1: Tuesday/Saturday and Week II Sunday Wednesday

We are seeking individuals who have experience working with primary substanceuse treatment. The program model will provide acute detoxification and earlyclinical stabilization services as we help clients develop community-basedlinkages to outpatient supports and substance use disorder treatment providers. This program provides administrative, medical, clinical and non-clinicalservices. This program will provide quality client-centered care and recovery orientedtreatment.

The Unit Nurse provides direction to employees of a lower level and activelyparticipates in treatment assuring client care meets best practice standards.Compliance with all federal regulations is essential, including Confidentialityof Alcohol and Drug Abuse clients and HIPAA Regulations (42 CFR Part 2 and Part8).

* Conducts and / or participates in admissions, discharges and transfers asnecessary. Assures client care meetsbest practice standards and in compliance with protocols. Monitors vital signsand assesses withdrawal signs and symptoms

* Monitors and treats clients who have a concomitant substance use / medical /psychiatric illness and provides emergency medical care and daily medicaltreatments to medically compromised clients

* Administersroutine and PRN medications and assures controlled substance count and syringecount as required by standards, and ensures accurate records are kept inaccordance with identified protocols, communicates with physicians, transcribesorders, and documents to maintain accurate client records. Provides medicalmonitoring of detoxification and utilizes protocols as ordered by physician

* Actively participates in the Interdisciplinary Team, conducts, rounds,modifying Treatment Plans and meeting with families as indicated to fosterhealth and healing for the clients.

* Identifies and addresses client needs by conducting nursing assessments,developing nursing interventions, assesses, evaluates, and responds to changesin client conditions, documenting and reporting such changes to appropriateperson to assure prompt response to client needs.

* Responds to all emergencies and provides direct client care in a professional,skilled manner.

* Assists in monitoring inventory, ordering of medications and equipment neededfor daily operation of the unit in collaboration with the pharmacy.

* Documents pertinent information in accordance with established standardprotocols and procedures.

Minimum of one year experience working with clients who have primary substanceuse disorders, which includes knowledge of detoxification protocols includingbut not limited to the CIWA and COWS, and working with clients in acutedetoxification and in maintenance for substance use disorders is preferred.

The Department of Mental Health (DMH) in collaboration with theDepartment of Public Health (DPH) Bureau of Substance Abuse Services operates astatewide Women's Recovery from Addiction Program in Taunton for individualscivilly committed by the courts for substance use treatment for up to 90 days(\"Section 35 commitment\").

The program model will provide acute detoxification and early clinicalstabilization services as we help clients develop community-based linkages tooutpatient supports and substance use disorder treatment providers. Theindividuals treated within this program will be linked upon discharge to arange of services within the DPH continuum of care for substance useconditions.

The Department of Mental Health is seeking qualified candidates for the newlycreated Women's Recovery from Addiction Program for women admitted under MGLChapter 123, Section 35. This program provides administrative, medical,clinical and non-clinical services. This program will provide qualityclient-centered care and recovery oriented treatment.

Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic or medical facility, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.


I. A Graduate degree with a major in Nursing may be substituted for the required experience .*

* Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LEVELS IN SERIES: Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.

* Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination.

Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required.
