Job Description A Shipfitter is required to interpret construction drawings with basic mathematic ability. Duties include, but are not limited to: Layout, fabrication, assembly and installation of foundations, structures, bulkheads, frames, components and deck packages
Will need to develop a working knowledge of structural weld joint fit-up/weld symbols, burning and grinding operations
Will be required to align parts in relation to each other using jacks, clips and wedges through use of blueprints and templates
Tack-weld structural parts as required
Must be able to read and interpret written policies, procedures and guidelines as work assignments will be accomplished using company drawings, test documents, technical manuals, and shipyard procedures
Work conditions may include entry in restricted/confined spaces Education/ Experience Seeking all skill levels: Previous Shipfitting/metal fabrication or carpentry experience is preferred
Previous experience working in the construction industry or a manufacturing environment is desired
Previous metal fabrication experience and military shipbuilding experience is preferred
High school diploma/GED preferred; additional preference given for Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
Individuals who are either enrolled or have completed the Shipbuilding/Marine Advanced Manufacturing Institute (SAMI) program or individuals who are signed up with Network RI /RI Department of Labor and Training are highly desired
Military/Navy experience preferred Skills Applicant must apply for a DoD security clearance as a condition of employment
Must possess basic mathematical, communication and interpersonal skills
Must be able to work all shifts, heights, confined spaces and extreme temperature conditions as required
Applicant will be required to work in a collaborative and team environment and meet organizational goals
Applicant must be able to interpret technical manuals, shipyard procedures, test documents, blueprints, diagrams, and perform basic layout functions
